Yo Soy Boricua
I am currently working on my "Yo Soy Boricua" series. I recently traveled to Puerto Rico after 28 years. In this trip I was able to embrace my culture and connect with the people from Puerto Rico, my people. Their pride of being Puerto Rican became my pride. My heart was filled with joy as I traveled to different cities . I was amazed with the art you see everywhere and in the most unexpected places. Their Puerto Rican flag painted every where you went. I can still feel the wind by the beach as someone in a tent played the guiro and sang. It was joyful and an experience that changed my life forever.
The work features Taino symbols and patterns in acrylic paints. I wanted to use bright colors like you see in many murals and mosaic murals around the cities and pueblos.
The Coqui` and the Goddess is based on a Puerto Rican folklore.

Acrylic Pour
This is a technique where artist pour fluid acrylic paints on a surface to create an abstract work of art. I focus on color schemes that can produce a calming aesthetic. All canvasses are available for sale in our store. |

B&W Nature Series
I’ve loved black and white photography since I was young. I have enjoyed playing with the exposure and aperture as well as developing photos is a darkroom. I wanted to be able to portray that on a canvas. Portray the white, black and grey tones that are controlled with the camera and in a darkroom. I am the camera and darkroom of these paintings. The love of nature and B&W photography are my inspiration for this series. |
WTH, 2021
22x28" Acrylic on Canvas Sometimes I think, What The Heck, Dru? What are you thinking when you come up with these paintings? What will others think? Many times I paint and I don't step back to see the overall paintings. I start with an empty canvas and not a lot of planning. I want to roam free when I paint, I want to let my creativity take over. Even if what comes out is not good, I can always start over. Why do I have to succumb to the rules? Can I just be free? Can I just paint what comes to mind? What will it look like if I paint this line red and paint black on top? I didn't like that outcome so let me scratch of the black, then I realize I love the effect that left behind. You'd be surprised the things you can create when you just let loose and be yourself! |
"He loves me, he loves me NOT", 2021
24"x36" Alcohol Inks on canvas
My current work involves alcohol inks and the challenge of fluid art. This piece reflects the euphoria of being in love. Being in a relationship were you give your all and the love is not reciprocated.

X Marks the Spot or Do We?, 2021
24"x30" Acrylic on canvas Some of the things we go through in life aren't visible to others. Many people mark our lives and not always in a good way. Most of it becomes scars. We replay those moments or those words said to us over and over again in our heads. Those words are powerful enough to stop us from living a happy life. We can look happy on the outside but inside there is a great amount of pain. We struggle with self esteem due to these scar (X's) that marked us. This painting reflects some of the words used to hurt many of us. This painting was a way for me to tell the world what I struggled with and I know that many can relate. |
Jackson Pollock Inspired
I was inspired by Jackson Pollock and his process. I wanted to be able to create my own style using some of his techniques. My main focus was to create a background that was as much part of the painting as the splatter on top. The splattered was purposely made directional and elongated splatter strokes. The combination of colors create contrast and depth. |

Limitless
Life is not to go around, life is to go through. Gathering in strength from the edges, worlds of possibility can open in any life. Gathering in strength from what binds us together as humans, those things we have in common and delighting in the diversity, we can know and believe there are limitless ways through this gift of life. I focused on working with bold colors and creating depth in my pieces. I want to focus on having dimension. This dimension gives a feeling of being able to walk in to the paintings. The bright colors spark joy and freedom. Intrepid is currently being showcased at the Hyatt Regency Orlando, Florida. |
Abstraction Attraction with Acrylics
I like to experiment with colors and textures. Watering down acrylics or adding mediums to it. What can I come up with? I like to challenge my myself in order to create something that's different. I am not an artist to be the same as others but to be different. One of the things I enjoy doing is letting my paint dry a little and manipulate it. You can create different textures this way as well. I love abstract- but how can I interpret things in my way? This is my thought process. I also challenge myself in creating depth to my pieces. |

Alcohol Inks
Working with Alcohol inks is challenging and rewarding at the same time. The challenge is to be able control the movement of the alcohol and get the desired composition, sometimes without mixing the colons on the canvas. Other times mixing the colors is the desired outcome. Not to mention that when you are using a hair blower or heat gun the alcohol evaporates fast and leaves the color pigments on the canvas. Good thing for that alcohol, when applied you can rework your design. My favorite thing about alcohol is that I can choose to have lighter colors by adding more alcohol and diluting the pigments or keep the colors intense. This process takes a long time to figure out! |
